17 August 1945 Semarang University is increasingly showing its appeal as a campus of choice for international students. This is proven by the joining of three students from Myanmar, namely Maythinzar Win, Mya Myint Thu, and Theingi Aung, who are currently studying for a Bachelor’s degree (S1) at the Faculty of Engineering, in the Architecture study program.

The three explained that they knew UNTAG Semarang through their lecturers and seniors who were members of the Asian heritage research community. Their interest grew stronger after hearing about the campus’s reputation in combining architecture with cultural heritage preservation.
“We learned about UNTAG Semarang from the Asian heritage research community. Many of them said that this campus has an excellent architecture program, especially in terms of cultural and historical heritage preservation,” said Mya Myint Thu, a student born in Yangon.

Maythinzar Win added that the existence of the UNTAG International Office was also an important factor. “From the beginning of registration until we officially became students, we received full guidance from the UNTAG International Office. This really helped us who were studying abroad for the first time,” he said.
For information, the UNTAG International Office, led by Dr. Eko Nursanty, plays an important role in supporting foreign students, including providing guidance regarding registration, document management, and adjustments to the lecture system at UNTAG. This support makes the experience of foreign students smoother and more enjoyable.

Theingi Aung, who also comes from Yangon, expressed his interest in the architectural approach applied at UNTAG. “We want to learn more about heritage architectural preservation techniques in Indonesia, which we can later apply in Myanmar,” he said.

Responding to the presence of these three foreign students, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNTAG, Dr. Retno Ambarwati Sigit Lestari, expressed his pride and appreciation. “We are very happy and proud to be part of the educational journey of these foreign students.”

“Their presence shows that the Architecture program at UNTAG is increasingly recognized internationally, especially in terms of preserving cultural heritage. We will continue to provide full support so that they can study comfortably and optimally here,” he said.

The presence of these foreign students from Myanmar adds international color to the UNTAG Semarang campus environment. The university also expressed its appreciation for the enthusiasm of foreign students who joined.
“UNTAG continues to be committed to being a friendly campus for international students. We will continue to support their learning process, both in terms of academics and the development of international networks,” said one of the faculty representatives.
With the support of the International Office and quality academic programs, UNTAG Semarang has succeeded in attracting students from various countries. The presence of these international students not only improves the campus’ reputation in the international arena, but also strengthens collaboration in preserving heritage architecture in the Asian region.
